Progress of the La Rioja Health Emergency Plan

Reduction of waiting lists and intervention times

The regional government of La Rioja is proud of the achievements made with the Health Emergency Plan in the first six months of operation. Through an official statement, it is highlighted that the number of patients waiting for surgical interventions has decreased by more than 21%. The increase in surgical activity has been essential to reduce waiting times with an increase of 2,512 interventions compared to the previous period, which represents an increase of 16.5% in estimated activity.

Improvement in delays by specialties

Specialties such as Vascular Surgery and Angiology have seen their average delay reduced by 77 days, Urology by 51 days and Maxillofacial Surgery by 50 days. These results, according to the regional Executive, are close to the set objective and the necessary measures will continue to be implemented to improve the indicators detected last year.

Increase in surgical activity and reduction in waiting times

The commitment to increasing surgical activity has been essential to reduce waiting lists and intervention times. During the period from September 1, 2023 to February 29 of this year, 17,705 surgical interventions were carried out in hospitals in La Rioja, representing an increase of 16.5% compared to the previous year.

Projections and monitoring of the Health Emergency Plan

Future goals and delay reduction

After the first six months of the Health Emergency Plan, the number of patients waiting for surgical interventions has been reduced from 9,231 to 7,283, which represents a decrease of 21.1%. The average delay has been reduced from 120 days to 79.9 days, moving closer to the goal of reaching an average of around 60 days in the first year of the plan.

Measures and expansion of the Health Emergency Plan

The Emergency Plan includes various actions such as increasing surgical activity during extended hours, referring mild cases to other centers, and external contracting to perform interventions in specialties with greater delays. These initiatives have the necessary budgetary support for their execution.

In addition, an expansion of the plan was approved authorizing the urgent hiring of external resources to carry out 2,050 additional interventions in specialties with greater delay. The regional budgets for the Health area contemplate an increase of 5.66% for the year 2024, allocating greater resources to professionals and improvements in healthcare services.

Commitment to quality care and reduction of waiting lists

The La Rioja region will continue working to offer timely medical care to patients, promoting outpatient surgery and optimizing the use of hospital resources. It seeks to improve the quality of health services and reduce waiting lists, maintaining a proactive and efficient approach in the management of health care.
