A month of shares for equality
The collective March 8 of the Alcoyan region and the county has designed a series of activities with the aim of commemorating International Women’s Day. This initiative seeks not only to celebrate, but also to promote the debate on gender equality and social justice, with a calendar that will extend from March 6 to April 3.
Concentrations and concerts: a vibrant opening
On Friday, March 7, it will mark the beginning of this cycle of activities with the concentration ‘Visca, Visca, Visca, the feminist struggle!’, Scheduled in Cocentaina, in front of the Condal Palace. On the same day, the Pub La Mujer Barbuda d’Alcoi will host a jazz concert with the participation of Viktorija Pilatovic and Joan Soler, with Antonio Serrano, thanks to the collaboration of Jazz Club El Mussol.
March 8 manifestation: A cry for justice
On Saturday, March 8, at 12 noon, a rally will be held in Alcoy, with the slogan ‘For the rights of all people, for justice, equality and peace!’. The march will begin on the Paseo de Cervantes, passing through several streets until you reach the Plaza de España, where there will be performances of the Batucada ‘Ta! Quirikita! ‘And’ Sister Vibes’, and a manifesto will be read in collaboration with the Alcoy Deaf People Association.
Conferences and music: A mixture of arts
On March 12, at 6pm, a conference entitled ‘Quiéreme Bien’, organized in collaboration with the FPA Beniasent de Cocentaina, will be held by the Rural Dona Center of Elda. Two days later, the UNESCO Club of Alcoy will be the setting for the ‘Tendur’ concert by Mireia Tortosa, which promises an evening full of tenderness and social criticism, accompanied by a wine of sorority.
Recitals and cinema: You see that resonate
On March 15, Detroit Llibres d’Alcoi will host the recital ‘Voices of Women’, with the Crescendo Municipal School presenting works composed of women. Activist Edurne Vaello will offer an introduction to the history of women workers in the local textile industry. In addition, the 8M film cycle will include projections that will address sexist violence and experiences of women in contexts of repression.
Closing of activities: Reflection and memory
On April 3, the activities will culminate in two significant proposals. Alcoi will host the conference ‘Palestine, the war that will change the world’ with the journalist Lola Bañón Castellón, while in Cocentaina, the El Teula Cultural Center will project ‘Flores Bajo el Hielo’, a film that claims the historical memory of the women who fought during the coup d’etat of 1936 and the Francoist dictatorship.
