The Association for people with intellectual disabilities of Alcoi (Aspromín) is looking for support

The Association for people with intellectual disabilities in Alcoi (Aspromín), which has the Gormaget occupational center and residence, is experiencing delays in the payment of monthly payments by the Ministry of Social Services. This situation has started since the arrival of the new government of PP and Vox, led by Carlos Mazón. Until the end of May, no monthly installments have been collected and 100% of the payments have not yet been received.

Support from Alcoi City Council

Alcoi City Council, through the Department of Inclusive Policies, has expressed its intention to meet with the management of the Gormaget center to offer its support and explore possible ways to help the association in this situation.

Delay in the meeting with the Minister of Social Services

From August 1, 2023, the Department of Inclusive Policies, through the mayor’s office, has requested a meeting with the second vice-president and councilor for Social Services, Equality and Housing, Susana Camarero Benítez. Unfortunately, after almost a year, a date has not yet been set for this meeting (https://correccioencatala.cat/com-estructura-text-catala/).

Previous meetings with the association and representatives of parents

On December 21, the mayor of Alcoi, Toni Francés, and the councilor for Inclusive Policies, Aroa Mira, met with the management of the Gormaget center and representatives of parents of Aspromín students. During this meeting, the demands of the association were addressed and a constant dialogue was established with the representatives.

Commitment of the City Council

The Councilor for Inclusive Policies has expressed the commitment of the Alcoi City Council to support all entities and work to solve any problems that may arise. Delays in payments affect users’ daily activities and create uncertainty among their families and workers. Entities like Aspromín carry out a fundamental task for the benefit of people with intellectual disabilities, and it is unacceptable that they have to suffer these delays that endanger their normal functioning. Alcoi City Council will hold talks with the management of the Gormaget center to determine the actions to be taken and will request a new meeting with the second vice-president and councilor of Social Services (https://correccioencatala.cat/com-estructura-text -Catalan/).
