Collaborative activities for International Women’s Day
Alcoy has mobilized to commemorate International Women’s Day with rich and diverse programming, designed by the Department of Equality in collaboration with different departments of the City Council and local organizations.
A tribute to the creative women
This year, the central theme is the contribution of creative women to society, focusing on the figure of the writer Isabel-Clara Simó, on the fifth anniversary of her death. The activities planned throughout the year will seek to remember their influence and legacy.
Highlights of the program
Women’s race and exhibitions
The program will start on February 27 with the Women’s Race, organized by the Alcoy Campus of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. This activity, which includes free registrations, will be held at the Francisco Laporta sports center.
Exhibitions that celebrate the female legacy
On February 28, the exhibition ‘The word and the image: Isabel-Clara Simó, journalist’ will be opened, which can be visited until March 31 at the House of Culture. In addition, from March 3 to 20, the exhibition ‘The party through the female objective’ will highlight the work of women photographers at the Moors and Christians festivals.
Debates and workshops for reflection
On March 4, a round table will be held with the participation of prominent creators, moderated by Miriam Barea, and on March 6 there will be a workshop dedicated to ‘Sinsombrero’, as well as a film cycle at the Mario Silvestre Cultural Center.
Celebrations and activities for all
The schoolchildren are also involved in the celebration of March 8 with activities in the Plaza de España, while last night they will offer a night march and several workshops, including a menopause.
Demonstration and solidarity concerts
On March 8, a manifestation with manifest reading and musical actions, including Sister Vibes, will bring together the community to defend women’s rights. In the afternoon, the Women Symphony Band will offer a charity concert.
Continuity of activities beyond March 8
After 8M, the activities will continue with conferences on inequality in art and shows that will address gender topics, such as ‘Les couchers: Charlas de Azucarillo’ and a cycle of short films nominated for the Goya 2024.
This program not only commemorates the struggles of the past, but also seeks to inspire a new generation to continue working for gender equality and the recognition of women in all areas.
