Alcoy’s reaction to the Ministry’s decision
The City Council of Alcoy has expressed concern to the intention of the Ministry of Education to dismiss the reform of the IES Pare Vitoria, a project that represents an investment of almost 6 million euros. This action has been considered a threat to the educational development of the city.
A forceful allegation
The council has submitted a formal allegation against the resolution that seeks to cancel the project of remodeling of the educational center. The City Council believes that this decision is arbitrary and baseless, since all the relevant legal procedures have been followed and the project is in the award phase.
History of the project
On November 24, 2024, the drafting of the project was tendered to adapt the IES Pare Vitoria, as well as its technical supervision, with a budget of 396,320.77 euros. The process is currently underway, and the City Council has provided the necessary documentation to the Ministry.
Local government criticism
Mayor Toni Francés has expressed his outrage, noting that this political maneuver not only questions municipal management, but also seriously affects the education of young people. Francés has stated that the Ministry should facilitate and not obstruct the progress of schools.
The danger of a risk educational infrastructure
The decision of the Generalitat to paralyze this investment is seen as a threat to the IES Pare Vitoria, and the City Council has stated that it is not acceptable that the councils have to load with the consequences of a government inaction that has lasted more than a year.
Situation of the CEIP the Romeral
In addition to the reform of the IES, the City Council has stated that the work of the CEIP El Romeral, which requires an urgent change of boilers, is still pending. Despite being the responsibility of the Ministry, the City Council has had to temporarily intervene to guarantee the heating of the center.
A call for reflection
The mayor has expressed his concerns about the public education model promoted by the Council, which, according to him, leaves schools in precarious conditions and in danger of losing the necessary improvements. Its position is clear: Alcoy will not accept that arbitrary decisions affect their educational future.
Commitment to public education
Finally, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to quality public education, with the right infrastructure and fair funding. It demands an immediate rectification by the Generalitat to ensure that the promised investments are not diverted and that Alcoy can continue to advance in its educational mission.
