Alcoy has established himself as a leader in the collection of waste within the A2 Waste Consortium, covering the counties of El Comtat, much of the Alcoyano and some municipalities of Alicante. The statistics of 2024 reveal that this city stands out in the management of recyclable materials, with a remarkable collection of lightweight packaging and paper.

The figures are impressive: Alcoy has managed to collect more than 1,368,000 kilos of light packaging, which represents 23 kg per capita annually. In terms of paper and cardboard, the collection has reached 1,186,768 kilos, equivalent to 20 kg per inhabitant. These data significantly exceed the consortium averages, which are 16.36 kg/inhabitant by packaging and 17.85 kg/inhabitant by paper.
A commitment to the environment
The glass collection in Alcoy is also noteworthy, with 16.21 kg per capita, a figure very similar to the average of the A2 Consortium, which is 16.53 kg/inhabitant. In total, in 2024, 978,600 kilos of glass were collected. These data are a reflection of the commitment of the population of Alcoy to recycling and sustainability.

With a population of 60,372 inhabitants, Alcoy has shown that the union strengthens. The positive recycling results are the result of a joint effort, with a well -organized collection system and a conscious and active citizenship.

The Councilor for Ecological Transition, Teresa Sanjuán, has expressed his satisfaction with the results, saying that ‘Alcoy is an example of commitment to the circular economy and the fight against climate change’. Sanjuán added that recycling is a fundamental part of its sustainability strategy, with plans to improve collection and foster environmental education among all sectors of society.
