Alert for the felling of pines around Portlligat in Cadaqués

by PREMIUM.CAT

The Friends of Nature Association of Cadaqués calls for stricter measures to preserve trees in the municipality

The ecologists of Cadaqués are concerned about the cutting down of trees that have been done abusively recently and that have eliminated most of them in the area of the protection environment of the House of Salvador Dalí in Portlligat (which entered within the Quatre Camins Sud sector that the Urban Master Plan declassified) and the Pineda de Sa Jorneta, between Llané Petit and Sa Conca in Cadaqués.

Impact on biodiversity

Ecologists warn that the loss of trees has a significant impact on the area’s biodiversity. The tree felling companies have removed most of the trees, including young trees and large specimens. This has caused a change in the local climate and has negatively affected the natural environment, reducing the richness of the landscape and affecting the identity of the area.

Balance between fire prevention and nature preservation

Ecologists emphasize the importance of finding a balance between fire prevention tasks and the preservation of nature. Although the felling of trees has been justified due to the work of creating firebreaks around the towns, the need to carry out these tasks in a more sustainable and respectful way with the natural environment is insisted. It is requested that less aggressive alternatives, such as the use of manual methods, be explored to avoid the indiscriminate crushing of trees in protected areas.

Inspection and regulation of tree removal tasks

To reverse this situation, the Association Amics de la Natura de Cadaqués urges the City Council to inspect tree removal tasks to prevent outsourced companies from carrying out abusive felling. It is also requested that the maintenance of perimeter fire protection strips be regulated, looking for less aggressive alternatives and avoiding the indiscriminate crushing of trees in protected areas.

Alert to the Costa Brava

SOS Costa Brava has recently warned about the massive felling of trees along the Girona coast, including Cadaqués. This situation worries ecologists and calls for greater protection of trees and natural spaces in the area.
