A new vision of adversity

In an innovative proposal, the TNC presents ‘Alicia in a real world’, a theatrical adaptation that transforms the well -known graphic novel created by Isabel Franc and Susanna Martín. Directed by Teresa Urroz and performed by a talented quartet formed by Sílvia Sabaté, Roser Batalla, Susana Egea and Blanca Pàmpols, the work explores with a fresh and optimistic approach the complicated journey that accompanies the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

Alicia’s character: a writer in crisis

Sílvia Sabaté embodies Alicia, a writer who is in a time of personal turbulence when he is diagnosed with cancer. His two friends, performed by Pàmpols and Egea, become a fundamental support, although his recommendations do not always resonate with the protagonist. Sabaté emphasizes that ‘the work not only celebrates friendship, but also denounces the complex industry that surrounds breast cancer and the interests of pharmaceuticals.’

A journey through the mirror

One of the most prominent innovations of adaptation is the introduction of a character representing the inner voice of Alicia, played by Roser Batalla. This figure, which is not tangible but a mental projection, symbolizes the mirror that Alice has to cross to face its challenges. “This figure contrasts with the rawness of his reality, providing a playful and creative perspective,” says Batalla.

Multidisciplinary

The work incorporates a rich variety of artistic resources, including live music, puppets and projections that help create a dynamic and fun atmosphere. Mireia Tejero contributes her skill to the saxophone, while Joan Bentallé gives life to the cat, a key character in the narrative. “The intention was to create a work that, despite having a serious background, would maintain a tone of criticism and humor,” emphasizes Urroz.

A Reflex of Contemporary Reality

The production has been released in a season that has also seen the scene of ‘Radio Women’, by Cristina Clemente, bringing rich diversity to the theater program. ‘Alice in a real world’ not only seeks to entertain, but also to reflect on the challenges that many people face with serious illnesses in today’s society.
