Origin and philosophy of alterevents
If you do a search for Alterevents on the internet, you will most likely come up with a company that organizes ’boutique wedding events’. But here we are talking about a project with the subtitle ‘kitchen and revolution’, which stands out for its unique and transformative proposal.
This ambitious project was born ten years ago with the aim of providing catering services to events and celebrations of activists committed to a social and transformative economy. This means collaborating only with entities that promote anti-capitalist values and a fairer economy.
Strategic alliances and conscious products
Alterevents teamed up with Frixen, an Aragonese project that manufactures alternative drinks, to offer products such as lemonades, tonics and colas for €2.20, all from ‘conscious trade’ and with fair trade and vegan ingredients.
They started by managing the bar of the Popular Workers’ Collective of Ripollet and self-financing to maintain a minimal infrastructure. From 2021, however, they are established at the Ateneo de Nou Barris.
A unique culinary experience at the Ateneo de Nou Barris
At the Ateneo, they offer an excellent lunch menu (with vegetarian and vegan options) consisting of three starters, three main courses and three desserts for just €12. For example, a quiche, fish with vegetables and tiramisu, all fresh and delicious.
In the evenings, they cater to the public leaving an indelible mark thanks to their €1.5 skewers, fried eggs and pork leg terrines. In addition, they offer craft beers such as Bandolera and Barricada, and a high-quality Espanica coffee for just €1.
A committed and diverse team
The Alterevents team is made up of Maria, Mario, Fulvio, Montse, Celia, Ibrahim, Ciro and Kotu, all involved in the mission of bringing a sustainable and fair gastronomic offer.
They also manage the bar at events such as the Literal fair of radical literature and the Kumbiamba festival of Latin American music and culture. When they called a strike for Palestine, they reopened after the strike to offer a special menu featuring Palestinian dishes.
All of this demonstrates their commitment to maintaining a food model that will break free from neoliberalism and, for many years to come, they will be a benchmark for quality and commitment.
