A holiday with historical roots
From May 15 to May 17, Amposta revived his cultural legacy with the seventeenth edition of the Market Festival in the square, focusing on the figure of 20th century dressmakers. The good weather accompanied an event that attracted thousands of visitors to the historic center, where more than 100 different activities were offered.
The voice of the city: the words of the mayor
Mayor Adam Tomàs expressed his gratitude to all the collaborators who made this event possible. In his statements, he emphasized the positive impact of the party on the community: ‘We have lived a few days full of activities, with a great participation of the citizens and the entities. The answer has been magnificent, with almost exhausted shows and the streets full of life ‘.
Style inauguration: The Neus Fornós Proclamation
The inauguration featured a speech by Neus Fornós, a dressmaker and descendant of one of the emblematic figures of the time, known as ‘La Belet’. Fornós emphasized the importance of the often forgotten dressmakers who gave life to the art of sewing in those years.
Fashion parade: A backward back in time
One of the most celebrated attractions was the fashionable parade inspired by the 20th century, which had great reception. Inés Martí, Councilor for Culture and Historical Memory, said that “the participation of shops and volunteers has been a great success to spread our history and value traditional trades”.
Shows and activities: A full agenda
The diversity of shows, both outdoors and inside, was one of the keys to the success of the party. Martí mentioned that this year it was sought to minimize the floods of activities, allowing more visitors to enjoy each proposal. “The Pepito de Cannes clothing contest was one of the busiest, with many inscriptions in its two categories,” he added.
Other popular proposals
Activities such as ‘Enigma 113: Randa thread’ gathered more than 50 teams and a hundred figures, while concerts such as those in the row and Lira encouraged the Nights of Amposta. There were also very well received shows such as ‘The Ampolino’ and ‘The Vermouth Dansat’.
Gastronomy and trade: a tasting of tradition
Pilar Segura, responsible for the party, emphasized the extension of the gastronomic offer, with 13 taverns and more than 60 stops that enriched the experience of the attendees. “We managed to create a dynamic and participatory atmosphere, with the city fully involved,” he said.
An end with expectations
On Sunday, the XVII Market Festival in the square with ‘Lo Paseo’ and a traca that ended this edition. The look is already put in the future, with the intention of starting to plan the next edition, the XVIII Market Festival in the square, with the support of the Diputació de Tarragona Diputación Diputación Plan.
