Promoting the use of waste
Although society is increasingly aware of recycling, there is still a long way to go. Not only for citizens, but also for companies, as they could encourage new strategies to use waste more efficiently.
Luckily, a gas station has launched a very interesting campaign focused on renewable energy production and environmental protection. This initiative is part of a model known as the circular economy, which seeks to extend the useful life of products, reuse components and give resources a second life.
Repsol and its contribution
Repsol, a leading company in the energy sector, has decided to contribute to the development and implementation of this system. They have launched an innovative initiative to collect the cooking oil used by citizens and use it to produce renewable fuels.
For each liter of recycled oil, users get discounts on fuel that accumulate in their Waylet balance. This allows drivers to get discounts when filling up, meaning they can fill up the tank for a lower price.
This possibility is available in some parts of Spain, such as the Community of Madrid, Galicia and Castilla-La Mancha. Repsol assures that one liter of cooking oil can produce 0.9 liters of renewable fuel.
Conditions for delivering the oil
Repsol requires that the used cooking oil be delivered in transparent plastic bottles of up to 5 liters, closed with a cap. The service stations are responsible for sending the collected oil to the refineries, where it is transformed into renewable fuel with zero net emissions.
Some service stations already offer this option, and Repsol plans to expand this to more than 600 service stations with renewable fuel by 2024.
