The night return of the son
My son returned home late at night. He smelled of alcohol, had red eyes and a distraught appearance. We both knew that he was late and that I would be waiting for him in the living room, awake and anxious, with the phone in my hand and my gaze fixed on the door. Being late meant breaking our agreement.
A surprising confession
As soon as he set foot in the hall, before I could say anything, he knelt before me and began to tell in exaggerated detail that he was on a cliff. ‘What were you doing there?’ I asked him. She walked around, and swore she had seen a miraculous light. ‘With who?’, I asked him again. She was alone. My son, between sobs and babbling, made me understand that he had gone out for a walk along the path and, while resting among some bushes, he had witnessed an extraordinary light that transformed the environment.
The fantastic vision
He described that light to me as something indescribable, which flooded the space and changed reality, taking it to another dimension. ‘It was already night, Dad,’ he told me, and that lighting seemed to portend the appearance of the Virgin. I rubbed my eyes and laughed. I understood that his story had saved him from punishment.
The mission revealed
The next day, he returned to the cliff. According to him, the Virgin promised to appear three more times, with a clear message: to turn the town into a sanctuary for those in need. During the next two nights, he returned at the same time, dirty and smelling of alcohol, with stigmata on his hands and a gaze lost in infinity. He asked me to accompany him. I hesitated, not because of the light or the Virgin, but because accepting that my son had lost his sanity required time and patience.
The third day
Finally, on the third day I went with him. We stood on the cliff, staring at nothing. It was cold, and we waited in silence. The night turned into dawn, and the dawn into a cloudy dawn. There was no light or Virgin.
The impact on the town
The mayor commissioned first an altar and then a sanctuary. My son moved near the cliff. Commemorative t-shirts and mugs began to sell, and we began to charge admission to tourists. Our town became popular on the routes of believers.
Unexpected consequences
I asked my son to stop talking about it, but this went against the wishes of the Virgin. Soon the whole village knew about it, and within a few days the news spread on social media. I was afraid that they would make fun of him, but the opposite happened. By the end of the month, curious people were already queuing up at the cliff.
The rise of tourism
Two women also claimed that a healing light had cured them, and the town was filled with visitors. The mayor ordered the construction of an altar first and then a sanctuary. My son went to live near the cliff and the economy improved thanks to tourism.
They even opened an inn in the town, and people were happy. In the end, after so much effort, we built our life and happiness through a lie, which ultimately turned us into an ordinary family.
