An unforgettable musical trip: Berlioz in Girona

by PREMIUM.CAT

A Concert that Passes Pass uncovered

Last Saturday, May 17, Girona became the backdrop of the famous Temps de Flors exhibition, but also hosted an exceptional concert by the Gran Teatre del Liceu Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Josep Pons. Surprisingly, the event did not attract the attention it deserved, with an auditorium that was far from its maximum capacity.

A unique repertoire

The music program included two significant works: the poème for violin and orchestra by Ernest Chausson, and the majestic fantastic symphony of Hector Berlioz. The latter, a true monument to musical innovation, is often neglected in the usual programs of the great theaters.

The Virtualism of Emilie Langlais

Emilie Langlais, the solo violinist, shone with an interpretation that captivated the audience. His technical ability was evident in the most demanding passages, combining rich expressiveness with a gentleness that resonated perfectly with Chausson’s composition.

Berlioz: a revived classic

The great attraction of the night was the interpretation of the fantastic symphony. Pons, with his previous festival experience, offered a renewed view of this monumental work, which was received with an unmatched emotional intensity.

The direction of Pons

With an accurate direction, Pons guided the orchestra through the complex tempo and dynamic changes that characterize the work, maintaining a fluidity that caused each section to shine. The second movement, with its lovely waltz, culminated in an exciting growth that left the audience shown.

A sensory experience

The third movement saw the wooden wind section highlighting with ethereal beauty, while the fourth movement was a testament to the power of the metal section, which sounded with impressive clarity.

The concert climax

El moment culminant va arribar amb el darrer moviment, on l’energia de Pons es va reflectir en cada nota. The interpretation captured the essence of Berlioz’s work, with a fusion of sounds that vibrated the Auditorium, creating an almost supernatural experience.

A call to Berlioz’s programming

With the power shown by the orchestra, it is time for the artistic direction of the Gran Teatre del Liceu to consider programming more works by this French composer, which deserves to be rediscovered and celebrated. The quality of the orchestra is indisputable and ready to face the challenges that these works represent.
