An unexpected goal makes the difference
Real Valladolid achieved a narrow victory against RCD Espanyol (1-0) in their return to LaLiga. A lucky goal by the young Catalan Raúl Moro, former player of the Periquita academy, was enough to secure the three points for the locals.
Local dominance in the first half
During the first 45 minutes, Valladolid showed a clear superiority. Espanyol had difficulty creating chances, with a well-positioned home defense. In the 8th minute, Leandro Cabrera avoided a dangerous move, while Sergi Gómez blocked a shot from Mamadou Sylla in the 14th minute.
A decisive moment
After several chances from the locals, Raúl Moro managed to score the goal that decided the balance. His shot from the front of the area touched Sergi Gómez, deflecting the ball’s trajectory and leaving goalkeeper Joan García with no options.
A Spaniard in search of an equaliser
In the second half, the parakeets showed an improvement in their game, but Valladolid tried to keep control of the match. Irvin Cardona came close to equalizing with a shot that crashed off the post, while Javi Puado had a clear chance before the break but his shot went wide.
The last attempt
With time running out, Álvaro Aguado’s free-kick was deflected off the crossbar, ending a game in which Espanyol could not score. The three points are attached to Valladolid, which is in the first positions of the classification in this new season.
Perspectives futures
With this defeat, Espanyol is faced with the challenge of improving its performance in the coming games. The competition in LaLiga is intense, and the Budgies will have to work to recover and start accumulating points in what is a difficult start to the season.
