The flags: an honor that inspires
Lia Povedano and Nahuel Carabaña have been chosen as the representatives of the Andorran delegation at the opening ceremony of small states. This election, announced by the President of the Andorran Olympic Committee, Xavier Espot, has generated a feeling of great emotion among athletes, just one week after the start of the event.
A rigorous selection process
Espot explained that the selection of flags is based on criteria of excellence and sports values. “We have not sought influences or friendships, but we have been guided by a technical committee who is in charge of valoring the classifications and selecting the most appropriate representatives,” he said.
Reflections of Povedano
For Povedano, being a flag is a recognition of her effort, especially after having passed an injury that kept her away from the competition for months. “Recently, I would not have imagined to be able to participate in these games. When I was communicated to me, I was left without words,” the judoka shared.
A historical moment for Andorra
The Toni Martí pavilion hosted the reception of the Andorran delegation, an event that symbolized the union between the athletes and the country’s authorities. The Head of Government, Xavier Espot, emphasized the importance of the event, which represents a unique opportunity for Andorra to demonstrate its competitive spirit and organization capacity.
A unit message
Espot stated that the moment is crucial to show the world that, despite our size, Andorra is a country full of talent and determination. “We have to compete with passion and humility in front of our audience,” he said.
Preparations and challenges
The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Mònica Bonell, congratulated the athletes and federations on their dedication and effort in the preparation. “The nerves are normal before such an event, but we are sure that everything will be good because we put our hearts in this,” he said.
Some disadvantages to solve
However, some disadvantages have arisen, such as complaints about the delegation’s clothing sizes. Espot acknowledged that, with such a large group as 210 people, not all athletes have received their proper clothing. Bonell mentioned that it is common to have carvings problems and said they would do their best so that everyone can look the colors of their delegation.
The spirit of the games
The event was attended by prominent figures such as the President of the Andorran Olympic Committee, Xavier Espot Miró, and Anna Garcia, President of the Organizing Committee of the Games. With all ready for the start of this competition, the spirit of unity and effort is present in each corner of Andorra.
