Groundhog day: a musical in Catalan
Àngel Llacer, Manu Guix and Jordi Sellas are working on their first musical in Catalan, entitled ‘El dia de la marmota’. This musical, which will premiere at the Teatre Coliseum in Barcelona next December, is an adaptation of the musical comedy of the same name. It is the first time that this work has been translated into a language other than English. This will be the fifth musical produced by Nostromo Live, and auditions for the cast will take place on June 6th and 7th. We are looking for professionals with extensive training in singing, dancing and acting.

‘El dia de la marmota’ is a musical comedy created by Àngel Llàcer and Manu Guix, and produced by Nostromo Live. This musical is the next in the production line of Nostromo Live, after hits like ‘La Jaula de las locas’, ‘La tienda de los horrores’, ‘Cantando bajo la lluvia’ and ‘The Producers’. The music and lyrics of the show have been composed by Tim Minchin, a renowned Australian comedian and lyricist. The screenplay was written by Danny Rubin, based on the film adaptation of the same name.
A contemporary musical project in Catalan
The promoters of ‘El dia de la marmota’ present this musical as a contemporary and valid project in the international market. This production is a pioneer in translating this work into a non-English language, thanks to a new line of support from the Department of Culture. This initiative aims to promote the production of large-format musicals in Catalan, adapting titles of international renown.
A cinematic success that reaches the stage
The proposal for ‘Groundhog Day’ is inspired by the film of the same name released in 1993, starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell. This musical debuted in London in the summer of 2016, becoming the highest-grossing production in the history of ‘The Old Vic’ theatre. Following this success, it opened on Broadway on April 17, 2017, at the August Wilson Theatre.
Premiere at the Teatre Coliseum in Barcelona
‘El dia de la marmota’ will premiere at the Teatre Coliseum in Barcelona in December this year, coinciding with the Christmas festivities. Tickets for this musical will go on sale in mid-June and can be purchased on the official website of Grup Balaña.
