Anoia defends its agricultural uniqueness to administrative changes

by PREMIUM.CAT

The need for management adapted to diversity

The Union of Farmers has expressed concern for the future of the cereal municipalities of Anoia, which could lose the support of the territorial services of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of Central Catalonia. The union argues that the agronomic characteristics of the region are so varied that the same solutions cannot be applied throughout the area.

A congress for change

Recently, in Mollerussa, the XIV Congress of the Union of Farmers was held, where new members were chosen by the Board and a resolution was approved against the administrative transfer to the Vegueria del Penedès. This decision is made after the Generalitat begins to implement the new administrative organization that affects the Alt and Baix Penedès, the Garraf and a part of Anoia.

The voice of farmers: diversity and concerns

Joan Vidal, coordinator of Unió de Farmers in Anoia, emphasized that the structure of the Department of Agriculture of the Penedès cannot meet the needs of the farmers in Central Catalonia. “Livestock, forests and crops are better managed in our current region,” he said, emphasizing that the cereal part of the region would feel neglected under the new administration.

An agricultural map dive

The agricultural diversity of Anoia is reflected in its crops. While the cereal predominates in the north of the region, the south is noted for its wine production. “The power station and the northern part are essentially cereal, with an important livestock activity, while the south is dominated by the vineyards,” Vidal explained, emphasizing the complexity of the agricultural identity of the region.

A shared but differentiated identity

Vidal referred to the peculiar configuration of the region, which makes it unique and diversified. “We do not go into debates on their ‘artificiality’, but we focus on agricultural management and the need to stay linked to Central Catalonia, ‘he concluded. Most farmers in the region share this opinion, as evidenced by the voting of the National Council, who supported the motion to stop administrative change.
