Aragonès seeks to stand out in the central act of his training in Pineda de Mar

Pere Aragonès, the president of the Generalitat, has expressed his wish that the electoral campaign does not become an exclusive confrontation between Salvador Illa and Carles Puigdemont. In the central event of his training in Pineda de Mar, Aragonès’ hometown, the Catalan leader criticized Illa, accusing him of being subordinate to Pedro Sánchez. Aragonès warned voters, pointing out that if they choose to support the Moncloa representatives, they will be controlled from the same headquarters of the central government.

Equation of socialists and Junts as parties of the past

Aragonès has equated the Socialist Party and Junts, describing them as two groups that represent projects from the past. He highlighted that both parties implemented budget cuts during their respective mandates since 2010, including the final years of the José Montilla tripartite and Artur Mas governments, despite ERC’s participation in the former.

Emphasis on achievements and priorities for the next legislature

During his speech, Aragonès focused much of his attention on social aspects, highlighting his party’s commitment to equality. Furthermore, he presented himself as the only candidate capable of advocating for both independence and social justice, stating that working for Catalonia’s advancement in rights and freedoms is working for freedom itself.

In the event, Aragonès counted on the participation of prominent figures from his training, such as the vice-president Laura Vilagrà, the general secretary Marta Rovira, who intervened by videoconference, and the president of the party, Oriol Junqueras.

Reaffirmation of achievements and goals for the next legislature

Aragonès summarized his priorities for the next legislature in three main objectives: achieving a referendum, obtaining fair and unique financing for Catalonia, and strengthening the welfare state and the Catalan language. In this sense, he called to vote for ERC as a guarantee of the continuity of a government concerned about the 8 million Catalans.
