The Gabriel García Márquez Library of Barcelona receives the Emerging Architecture Award
The Gabriel García Márquez Library in Barcelona has been awarded the Emerging Architecture Prize, awarded by the Mies van der Rohe foundation and the European Commission. This recognition highlights the innovation and contribution of the library to the neighborhood in which it is located, transforming it and creating a new public space both inside and outside. The jury praised the library’s structure, describing it as a sequence of monumental and domestic spaces that provide a comfortable environment for learning and is characterized by meticulous attention to detail.
Architecture Prize 2024 for the Campus Pavilion of the Technical University of Braunschweig
The 2024 Architecture Prize has been awarded to the Pavilion on the campus of the Technical University of Braunschweig, in Germany. This project, developed by architects Gustav Düsing and Max Hacke, has been recognized for challenging limitations and preconceptions about sustainability, creating a welcoming and playful environment for the studio. The pavilion structure combines technological advances with a flexible and reusable approach.
Selection of the winners
These two award-winning projects were selected from among 362 nominated works, including projects developed by Catalan studios. Among the nominated works were two social housing blocks, a day center for young people with autism and an ephemeral structure in Romania. The announcement of the winners took place at the Center for Information, Documentation and Exhibitions (CIVA) in Brussels, during the European Architectural Policy Conference.
Awards ceremony and exhibition
The architecture awards ceremony will take place on May 14 at the Mies van der Rohe pavilion in Barcelona. In addition, debate days will be organized at the Victòria Eugènia palace in Barcelona, where the ‘EUmies Awards 2024’ exhibition will be exhibited. This exhibition will feature models, texts, videos and drawings of the selected works, as well as a summary of the 362 nominated creations. The exhibition will be open to the public until June 16. Subsequently, the exhibition will begin its tour of Europe, with openings in Madrid and Vienna.
Barcelona Architecture Weeks
The Barcelona Architecture Weeks will take place from May 14 to June 28. This event aims to promote the dissemination of architectural activity and will feature various activities related to architecture.
