An unforgettable musical experience at the Palau de la Música
On Friday, April 11, the Palau de la Música was the scene of an exceptional representation of the Passion according to Saint John of Johann Sebastian Bach, performed by the renowned Vox Vox Luminis, along with the Freiburger Barockorchester, all under the baton of the director and Baix Lionel Meunier, who assumed the role of Jesus with a significant depth.
The Vox Luminis Heart: Power and Dramatism
Vox Luminis, a prestigious choir directed by Meunier, began his performance with the shocking choir ‘Herr, Under Herrscher’, a demonstration of vocal force that, combined with the brightness of the orchestra, created a dramatic and emotional atmosphere that captivated the attendees.
The Role of Evangelist: Raphel Hushn
The tenor Raphael Höhn assumed the role of the evangelist, providing a clean and delicate voice that resonated with great clarity. His interpretation was an example of versatility, navigating the different shades with a sensitivity that enriched the gospel text.
An unusual strategy in soloists
Meunier’s decision to use choir singers as soloists raised various opinions. Although his interpretation as Jesus was respectable, his voice did not always achieve the projection needed for a role of such magnitude.
Diversity of voices: an ensemble variety
The soloists included the sopranos Erika Tandiono and Viola Blache, as well as the tenors Christopher B. Fischer and Vojtěch Semerád, accompanied by the contractor Alexander Chance and the Baix Sebastian Myrus. Among them, Chance stood out for his technical and musical excellence, especially in the aria ‘von Den Den Stricken Meiner Sünden’.
El Baríton Lóránt Najbauer: U Talent Singular
The baritone Lóránt Najbauer, despite playing a short role as a pilate, captivated the audience with his rich and authoritarian voice, leaving a lasting impression that placed him above the other soloists.
VOX Luminis I Freiburg Baroque Orchestra: Una Aliança Perfecta
The collaboration between Vox Luminis and the Freiburger Barockorchester was essential for the success of the performance. Together, they achieved harmony that transcended individual voices, creating a rich and cohesive sound experience. One of the most memorable moments was the ‘Ruht Wohl, Ihr Heiligen Gebeine’ heart, where the interaction between the two formations generated a sense of serenity and splendor.
Bach’s essence: Choir and orchestra as protagonists
In this performance, the choir and orchestra shone like the true protagonists, eclipsing individual performances and reflecting the essence of Bach’s work, where unity and collective power prevail above individualism.
Passion according to Saint John is not only a musical work; It is an emotional experience that resonates in the soul, reminding us of the power of music to connect with our deepest emotions.
