Shared leadership in independence

The president of the Generalitat and candidate for re-election, Pere Aragonès, has expressed his vision on leadership in the pro-independence field. According to Aragonès, independence will always be about shared leadership, as it is transversal. This means that transversal movements cannot be reduced to a single project or a single person, highlighting the importance of a collective and shared vision in this field.

Objectives of the next legislature

In relation to the formation of the government, Aragonès has highlighted three objectives for the next legislature. One of these objectives is to reach an agreement for a democratic solution, with its proposal centered on a specific referendum within the framework of the clarity agreement, while being open to dialogue. The other two objectives are singular funding and the reinforcement of the welfare state and the Catalan language, emphasizing the importance of finding support for these objectives.

Political positioning

Aragonès has expressed his view on political parties, stating that if the PSC presided over the Generalitat, he would not defend the transfer of Rodalies or a democratic solution to the conflict. As for Junts, he pointed out that he only has one project that he considers personalist around the candidate, Carles Puigdemont.

Reflections on leadership

Aragonès has compared his attitude to that of the president of the central government, Pedro Sánchez, stating that when he discovers that the CNI is spying on him, he does not take 5 days to think, but makes and communicates the decisions immediately. In addition, he has shown his determination in relation to the Pegasus case, stating that they will appeal the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office and referring to the importance of taking the case to the end.

BBVA-Sabadell merger and implications

In relation to the possible merger between BBVA and Banco Sabadell, Aragonès has expressed his opinion on this matter. He emphasized that, despite the temporary guarantees that can be given, mergers tend to fade over time. In addition, he stressed the importance of financial institutions in Catalonia and his concerns about the loss of the operational headquarters in Sabadell and the risk of concentration in the banking market.
