The sushi chef competition arrives in Barcelona
Barcelona becomes the headquarters of the national sushi chef competition, organized by the Balfegó Group, in its third edition. This event, which was previously held in Madrid, will pit eight finalists against each other in different culinary tests at the Llotja de Mar throughout the day today.
The ITAMAE Balfegó competition, which reaches its third edition, is held for the first time in Barcelona, taking over from Madrid. The day at Llotja de Mar will include workshops, training and other activities to enrich the participation of restaurateurs. The central axis will be the sushi chef competition, with the presence of eight finalists from different restaurants.
Participants and prizes
The eight finalists who will compete in the contest are the chefs of the restaurants: Hotaru (Valencia), Kabuki Gran Canaria (Las Palmas), Kinu (Seville), Kitsune (Barcelona), Os-kuro (Barcelona), Saisho (Madrid), Ta-kumi (Málaga) and Toki (Madrid). The winner of the contest, in addition to being recognized as the best sushi chef in the country, will receive a cash prize of 3,000 euros, a trip for two to Japan or Japanese knives, among other gifts to enhance his culinary talent.
Prestigious jury
The jury, made up of renowned names in the field of Japanese gastronomy, will evaluate the skills of the participants. Among the jury members are Hideki Matsuhisa (Koy Shunka*), Fabiola Lairet (Monster Sushi), Yoshikazu Yanome (Kaido Sushi Bar*) and Hugo Muñoz (Ugo Chan*).
Development of the competition
Unfortunately, one of the finalists, Kabuki Gran Canaria, will not be able to participate for medical reasons, although the organization has named him an honorary finalist. The remaining seven participants will compete in a day full of culinary challenges and Japanese culture, with the expectation of an exciting day full of gastronomic talent.
Contest history
In the last edition, the Japanese chef Masayuki Narumi, from the Daikichi Beach restaurant in Alicante, won the title, while in the first edition, the winner was Steven Bosen Wu Zheng, chef from the Imperial restaurant in Pamplona. The outcome of this third edition will be known at the end of the day, promising to be an exciting day for lovers of Japanese gastronomy.
