A celebration full of traditions and colors

The city of Barcelona is preparing to experience one of the most significant holidays for the Chinese community: the Chinese New Year. This celebration, which takes place on January 25, 2025, will bring together not only the Chinese community, but also several local entities such as the Huaxing Artists Association and Casa Asia, which will be responsible for organizing activities that reflect the cultural richness of this holiday.

The Chinese calendar and its uniqueness

The Chinese calendar, based on the phases of the moon, marks the beginning of the new year in a different way than the Gregorian calendar. Chinese New Year begins with the second new moon after the winter solstice, and each year is associated with one of the twelve animals of the Chinese horoscope. In 2025, celebrants will welcome the Year of the Dragon, a symbol of strength and good luck.

Activities planned for the big party

The day of January 25 promises to be vibrant with a varied agenda of activities. At 11 am, a parade will begin that will tour the Parc de l’Estació del Nord, followed by a cultural and gastronomic fair at the Arc del Triomf between 12 and 2 pm. The activities will resume in the afternoon, with more shows at the Arc del Triomf from 5 to 7 pm, and a fair that will last until 8 pm at Passeig de Sant Joan.
