A Cold Start of the Week
Bearded Week is approaching, marking the coldest period of the year, and 2025 will be no exception. Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia are prepared to face a significant drop in temperatures, especially during the night hours. Although an extreme cold wave is not expected, the weather promises to be especially icy.
The Bearded Men and the Unexpected Cold
With the arrival of the festivities dedicated to the three most emblematic bearded men—Saint Paul the Hermit, Saint Maur the Abbot and Saint Anthony the Abbot—Catalonia is preparing to receive a high-pressure system that will follow a mass of cold air. This phenomenon is an indicator of the intense cold that will characterize the coming days, with a notable drop in humidity that could cause even lower temperatures.
Intense Cold Forecast
Weather models agree in predicting that the nights of the first half of the week will be especially cold, with minimums that could fall below zero in much of the Catalan territory, except in some coastal areas.
Frosts in the Counties
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has warned about the possibility of black frost in the interior of the country, with minimum temperatures that could fall below the usual figures in several regions. Cities such as Manresa, Lleida and Girona could experience minimums of -4.3 ºC, -5.3 ºC and -5.6 ºC, respectively.
Barcelona: A Cold That Does Not Go Unnoticed
Although Barcelona has not activated any cold weather warnings, the city will also feel the impact of low temperatures. The forecast indicates that minimums could fall below 5ºC, especially during the nights from Sunday to Wednesday. The highest areas and lowlands could register values close to 0ºC.
Milder Temperatures in the Midday
Despite the cold at night, the daytime hours promise to be more pleasant thanks to the sun, which will raise temperatures to more comfortable levels, although they will hardly approach 15ºC.
Changes in the Weather as the Week Advances
As Bearded Week progresses, changes in the weather are expected, with increased cloudiness and warmer winds. Although no significant rainfall is anticipated, temperatures could begin to recover from Thursday.
Therefore, Catalonia is facing a week of freezing temperatures with a prospect of improvement as we approach the weekend, leaving behind a cold that, although intense, is common during this time of year.
