Alarming data on new companies

In February he has brought worrying news to the Catalan business fabric, with a decrease of 19.5% in the formation of new mercantile companies compared to the same period of the previous year. This figure, amounts to 1,636 new companies, represents the lowest level recorded since February 2022, according to the provisional statistics of the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Subscribed capital analysis

The fall not only affects the number of new societies, but also reflected in the subscribed capital, which has experienced a significant decrease of 27.9% compared to last February, at 98.2 million euros. However, compared to January of this year, a slight increase of 5.1%has been observed.

Average capital per company

The average capital contributed by each new company has been 56,410 euros, reflecting a 15.9% decrease compared to February 2023.

Corporate movements and solutions

Within the business landscape, 745 companies have chosen to increase their capital, with an increase of 72 compared to February of the previous year. Of these, 32 were joint stock companies and 713 limited. In contrast, 187 companies have decided to dissolve, an increase of six compared to the same month last year, including 120 voluntary solutions, 24 by merger and 43 for other reasons.

National Context: a widespread tendency

At the state level, the creation of new companies has experienced a fall of 20.2%, with a total of 8,746 new companies. The capital subscribed nationwide has decreased by 13.5%, while the average capital has increased by 8.5%, reaching 52,270 euros. In addition, 3,057 companies have chosen to expand their capital, a slight increase of 1.7% compared to February last year.

Regional differences in business creation

Among the various autonomous communities, Navarra emphasized with a growth of 30.5% in the creation of companies. However, regions such as La Rioja and Murcia have registered falls of 7.5% and 6.8%, respectively. The most negative figures have been observed in Asturias, with a decrease of 29%, followed by Madrid (-26.7%) and the Canary Islands (-25.8%).
