The escort on loan from Barça joins Chery and Birch as new additions to the Girona outfit this winter

Girona made official this Thursday the addition of Michael Caicedo (1.99 m, 2003), one of the most promising players in Spanish basketball, who arrives in Fontajau from Barça on loan until the end of the season. Caicedo is Girona’s third signing in this winter market, after the arrival of Canadian point guard Kenny Chery and Bahamian center Khem Birch, who already made their debut with their new team in the defeat to Andorra (93-66 in February 10). With these three reinforcements, Girona hopes to leave the bottom zone of the ACB classification and ensure permanence as soon as possible.

Caicedo, a precocious talent with elite experience

Caicedo is an escort with great scoring ability, good game vision and strong defense. He started playing basketball in Inca, his hometown in Mallorca, where he was born to Colombian parents. He then went through the lower categories of Roca del Vallès and Granollers, before signing for Barça in 2018. He made his ACB debut with the Barcelona club in the 20/21 season, aged just 17, in a match at the Nou gorge The following season, he had more minutes with the first team and participated in 11 Euroleague games. This season, however, he has not been able to play a single game due to an injury to the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, from which he was discharged on February 8. Now, he is looking to recover the pace of competition and continue to grow as a player at Girona, where he will be reunited with two former Barça teammates: Juani Marcos and Sergi Martínez, who are also on loan from the Catalan club. Last year, Caicedo already had a similar experience, when he finished the season in Granada of the LEB Or, where he played 19 games (6-13) and promised 8.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1, 9 assists.

Girona, with the full squad to receive the Obradoiro

Girona now has 14 players registered in the ACB, including Pau Sala, the fifth player in training, a condition that Caicedo also has. The other two training players are Sergi Martínez and Albert Sàbat. The two non-EU players are Khem Birch and Kenny Chery, who have not yet been registered in the league. The only player removed from team discipline is Corey Davis, who was suspended last week for indiscipline. The new coach of Girona, Fotis Katsikaris, who replaced Salva Camps in the last week of January, will be able to count on all his staff for the next match, which will be on Sunday March 3 in Fontajau against Obradoiro, a direct rival for salvation Girona is currently 16th in the table, with 7 wins and 17 losses, while Obradoiro is 18th, with 5 wins and 18 defeats. There are 12 games left until the end of the regular league and Girona has the opportunity to take an important step to ensure its continuity in the ACB.
