A New Beginning at Cal Bofill
The department dedicated to Sustainability, Health and Animal Welfare in Torredembarra has found a new home in Cal Bofill, a historic building located at Passeig de Colom, 50. This move was carried out after completing a conservation and improvement project that took place during the previous year.
Inaugural Visit of the Authorities
Last Wednesday, Mayor Vale Pino, along with Councilor Angie Muñoz, visited the new facilities. Pino explained that this relocation is essential for the better distribution of municipal spaces, given the lack of capacity in the current City Hall headquarters, located in the Castle.
A History of Rehabilitation
The building, which had previously housed the council’s office, is considered an ideal place for its activities, as it also houses the Environmental Activities Center. The mayor commented that the necessary rehabilitation has been taken advantage of to adapt the space to the specific needs of the council.
Significant Improvements Made
The improvements to Cal Bofill, which have been supervised by the Department of Urban Planning, include an investment of €40,587.51, VAT included. The works have included a major remodelling and various repairs.
Details of the Works
The works included: remodeling the toilet, repairing the water inlets and installing new rainwater drainage systems, at a cost of €16,824.32; restoration of the canopy and roofs for €3,316.61; and painting of facades and interiors for a total of €19,477.37. In addition, the Mallorcan sheets on the windows were replaced for €969.21.
A Building with History
Cal Bofill is not just a new administrative headquarters; it is a villa built in 1921 by Dr. Josep Maria Bofill, with a noucentista design that reflects the style of the time. This location not only houses the council, but is also a hub of environmental activities, managing the Muntanyans Natural Interest Area (EIN), in collaboration with the Generalitat.
Boosts for Local Sustainability
Councilwoman Angie Muñoz highlighted that the new space not only optimizes municipal resources, but also allows the council to work in an environment that better suits its needs, while also being closer to the natural surroundings of the Muntanyans. In addition, the building will once again be a point of exhibitions related to the environment.
