An unexpected change to the mayor’s office
Oliver Klein has once again held the mayor of Cambrils in a plenary session marked by surprise and political tensions. Following the resignation of the socialist Alfredo Clúa, the political situation of the municipality has become more complex, with a new government formed by an agreement between PSC, NMC and PP.
Voting results
The full investiture has begun with some delay, but Klein has won the 11 votes needed for his proclamation in the first vote. The other candidates obtained diverse results: Camí Mendoza (ERC) with 4 votes, Gemma Balanyà (PSC) with 0, Enric Daza (together) with 3, David Chatelain (PP) with 0, Palmira Isabel Segarra (Vox) with 2 and Jordi Barberà (ECP) with 1.
A strategic pact with the PP
Klein, in his first intervention as mayor, emphasized the importance of the pact with the PSC, saying that he has worked rigorously to establish a clear roadmap. In addition, he announced a principle according to the PP, recognizing his contribution to ensure the majority.
Commitment to municipal workers
The new mayor emphasized the need to solve the City Council’s internal problems, promising to address the demands of municipal workers who were present during the session.
Critics from the opposition
Camí Mendoza, a representative of ERC, expressed his disappointment with the new government, calling him a traitor and denouncing that the current pact opens a new negative stage for Cambrils. Mendoza referred to the support he had offered to the PSC in recent years, emphasizing the lack of loyalty he has received.
Various reactions to the new government
Jordi Barberà, from En Comú Podem, described the coalition formed as detrimental to the city, pointing to the PP’s responsibility in the stagnation of recent years. In contrast, David Chatelain, of the PP, argued that this new stage represents an opportunity for the stability and progress of Cambrils.
Looking to the future
With a new government underway, Klein and his team have to deal with a series of challenges. The success of his mandate will depend on the ability to work together and resolve the concerns of citizens, as well as to achieve the confidence of opposition parties. The road will not be easy, but Klein has expressed his determination to meet the challenges that will come.
