An innovative contest highlights the youth talent

The city of Cambrils has been the meeting point for a unique proposal: the first edition of a competition that combines Catalan poetry with urban music. Organized by the Cooperativa Vesembrant, with the support of the Platform for the Language, this event has been the result of creative workshops promoted by the Department of Local Education, within the Educational Environment Plan, which are being carried out during the 2024-2025 academic year.

A resounding success in participation

The enthusiasm of the students has been palpable, with a remarkable representation of the educational centers of Cambrils in the competition. On March 21, in the Old Audiencia de Tarragona, four prizes were presented, of which two went to students in the town, a fact that emphasizes the involvement and talent of the Cambrian youth.

Prizes and recognitions

Among the winners, the 4th year ESO students of the Cardinal Vidal i Barraquer College won the Plataforma per la Llengua Award with an adaptation of ‘La Marina Sta Morena’ by Figaflawas, incorporating verses by Olga Xirinacs and J.V. Foix. On the other hand, a group of students of the Shared Schooling Unit (UEC) was recognized with the 2nd prize in the general category for a 50 -hundred version of ’21 questions’, which also included texts by Vicent Andrés Estellés.

Awards that open doors

The winners of the Vidal i Barraquer College will have the opportunity to record their adaptation in a professional study by the producer Ilogike, as well as present their work at the Litterarum Fair in Móra de Ebro. In addition, they will be able to create a video with Impro Productions and participate in courses in composition and music production. UEC students will also enjoy a similar experience, with access to the study and advanced training.

Fostering creativity and the Catalan language

Natalia Pleguezuelos, Councilor for Education, has expressed his satisfaction with the good reception of this initiative, which has not only aroused his interest in Catalan poetic heritage among young people, but also enhanced his creativity. “The active participation of the students of Cambrils is a reflection of their talent and a motivation to continue with projects that promote the use of Catalan in creative fields,” he said.

An impact educational proposal

Within the framework of the Educational Plan of the Environment, the City Council of Cambrils has worked with Versembrant SCCL to implement this project, which seeks to strengthen the bond of young people with the Catalan language through urban music, an increasingly popular genre. The project consists of adapting Catalan poetic works to contemporary songs, thus promoting gender equity and the inclusion of diverse voices in artistic creation.

A promising future for músics the poetry

This initiative exemplifies how the combination of music and poetry can be a powerful educational tool, bringing the Catalan language closer to new generations in an innovative and attractive way. The fusion of different forms of artistic expression opens new avenues for youth creativity and contributes to the revitalization of Catalan cultural heritage.
