Strategy of the Government of Catalonia
The Catalan government, led by Salvador Illa, has designed an ambitious 1.5 billion euros plan to mitigate the adverse effects of the tariffs imposed by the US President Donald Trump. This initiative, which has been confirmed by various sources, includes the collaboration of the Social Dialogue Council, where the main unions and business associations meet.
Components of the support plan
The investment of 1.5 billion aims to guarantee the sustainability of the Catalan economy, especially in the business and agricultural sectors. The proposal includes direct grants for companies that seek internationally expand and face the challenges posed by the American market.
Breakdown of resources
Within this plan, 300 million euros will be allocated in lost funds, prioritizing the agri -food sector. In addition, resources are offered for international promotion and to facilitate the presence of Catalan companies in foreign markets. The remaining 900 million will be channeled through loans and credits managed by the Catalan Institute of Finance (ICF), which will include various forms of financial support.
Additional initiatives
The Plan also provides for an investment of 150 million in investment and capitalization funds, as well as 130 million for advice for the internationalization of companies. This includes the creation of specific plans to adapt to the new conditions of the US market and the reorientation of the action network.
Emergency meeting at the Palace
The call for this extraordinary meeting has been a direct response to the announcement of tariffs that affect virtually all products imported by the United States, with rates that can reach up to 20% for the European Union. Illa and its counselors, including the Minister of Economy and the Minister of Business and Labor, have been in constant contact with the main social agents to address this critical situation.
Immediate future
After a meeting with the Council of Social Dialogue, Illa plans to make an institutional statement that will address the measures that are being implemented. In the meantime, other members of the Government will meet with parliamentary groups to keep them informed about the steps to follow in this new stage.
