Start of budget talks
The Generalitat de Catalunya has launched the first talks for the preparation of the budgets for the year 2025. The Minister of Economy and Finance, Alícia Romero, has started dialogue with representatives of the ERC and the Commons, with the aim to have the accounts ready for January 1.
Negotiation framework
The negotiations will be based on the investiture agreements that the PSC established with both formations, highlighting the intention to fulfill these commitments in an exhaustive manner. This information was shared by the Government spokesperson, Sílvia Paneque, after the meeting of the Executive Council.
Focus on 2025, not 2024
In relation to the 2024 budgets, Paneque has indicated that, due to the restrictive deadlines, their approval will not be possible. Therefore, the Government’s strategy will focus on ensuring that the 2025 accounts are ready for deployment from the first day of the year.
A basis for negotiations
It is expected that the draft budget prepared during the previous ERC government could serve as a starting point for future talks. However, investment agreements will be key in defining budget priorities.
Approval, an essential priority
Paneque stressed that the achievement of these budgets is essential for the Government, since without these resources it will not be able to finance vital initiatives in areas such as education or water management. This situation highlights the importance of guaranteeing an adequate financing system.
Towards a new financing system
Regarding the new financing system agreed between PSC and ERC, Paneque mentioned that Councilor Romero will take charge of this issue during the processing of the 2025 budget project. Recognize the need for a new system that requires time to implement -it is a priority for the Government.
