The Catalan Government focuses on the future budget
The Government of the Generalitat has taken the decision not to draw up new budgets for 2024. Instead, President Salvador Illa is directing his efforts towards the negotiation of the accounts for 2025, as sources from the Executive at Europa Press.
A clear strategy for next year
The Executive’s aim is to ensure that next year’s budgets can come into force in January. This strategy will be formalized at the next meeting of the Executive Council, where the Minister of Economy, Alicia Romero, will present a report on the options available in budgetary matters.
Key political alliances
Illa has identified Esquerra Republicana (ERC) and the Commons as his priority partners in the negotiations for the 2025 accounts. These parties played an essential role in his investiture, and now he is looking to reaffirm these alliances.
A new governmental scenario
The decision not to present budgets for 2024 is partly explained by the increase in ministries in the new Government, which now has 16, compared to 14 in the previous administration of Pere Aragonès. This involves a reorganization that makes it difficult to create a new budget in such a short period of time.
Movements in the opposition
At the same time, Carles Puigdemont seeks to establish a ‘Shadow Government’, recalling the maneuvers that Illa carried out during the previous legislature. This initiative would allow him to distance himself from the strategies of Oriol Junqueras and Marta Rovira, who are also facing a tumultuous political landscape.
