The Risk Lurks: Catalonia Faced with the Threat of Terrorism

In recent years, Catalonia has experienced a worrying change in terms of its security against terrorism. According to Joan Ignasi Elena, advisor to the Department of the Interior of the Generalitat, although the alert level remains at 4, the danger has intensified, especially due to the threat of the so-called ‘lone wolves’.

Calm in the Middle of Tension

Despite this escalation of risk, Elena wanted to convey tranquility, highlighting that terrorist propaganda seeks to sow panic. It is crucial to remember that the alert level is still 4, although it has been strengthened, indicating increased risk of individual stocks.

Prevention in Action: Protecting Major Events

Faced with this scenario, the Generalitat is implementing preventive measures, especially in events with crowds. The match between FC Barcelona and PSG at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium is a clear example, with around 300 agents deployed. This meeting is considered ‘high risk’ due to its global relevance and the large influx of public, like other similar events such as the Mobile World Congress or the McDonald’s meeting last week.
