A space for unique expression
The exhibition ‘Eyes, nose and mouth’, promoted by the Josep Santacreu Foundation, has been inaugurated with great success in the Pere Pruna space of the Montserrat Museum. This exhibition, which can be visited until May 25, seeks to transform the way we perceive art created by people with functional diversity.
An inspirational start
The Catalan actress Ivana Miño was the presenter of the event, who had the participation of prominent figures such as the director of the museum, G. Xavier Caballé, and Eva Calatayud, of the Josep Santacreu Foundation. Also added was Carles Guerra, curator of the exhibition, who emphasized the importance of including diverse voices in the current art scene.
Artists’ experiences
The artists Marta Pérez and Helga León shared their experiences and the meaning they have for them to be able to present their creations. Both emphasized the importance of art as a tool for communication and personal expression, challenging the conventional notions on what art is.
Reflections on art and diversity
Fr Manel Gasch, Abbot of Montserrat, closed the act with deep words about the richness of the different artistic expressions. He said that art is a channel through which artists communicate their internal experiences, revealing the uniqueness of each individual. ‘Here, art becomes a meeting place between the believer and the divine,’ he added.
A new look at art
The title of the exhibition, ‘Eyes, nose and mouth’, evokes the essential elements of the human face, symbolizing the importance of seeing and being seen. This initiative aims to claim art that is often marginalized by the lack of understanding and mediation in the artistic world. The works, from various contexts, challenge labels and seek to be recognized beyond social stigmatization.
Art as a vehicle of change
The Artsingular Platform is an example of how to create support spaces for artists with functional diversity. Through workshops managed by various foundations, artistic creation is encouraged and work to overcome barriers that limit access to art. Entities such as the Autisme-Mas Casadevall Foundation and the Catalan Down Syndrome Foundation are just a few examples of this important work.
