An innovative cycle for popular dance
The Mercat de les Flors is approaching the roots of contemporary dance with a new cycle dedicated to popular expression forms. This initiative, entitled “ Radical d’Arto ”, will begin on April 3 and will last until May 3, offering a diverse show that will highlight the vitality of traditional dances such as flamenco and esbarts.
A journey through tradition and innovation
This cycle represents the culmination of a project that began five years ago with the creation of the Plan for the Promotion of Dance of the Root, an initiative of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat. This proposal seeks to revitalize and give visibility to the dancies that are part of the Catalan cultural heritage.
Highlighted artists and unique proposals
Among the most anticipated performances is that of Maria del Mar Suárez, known as “La Chachi”, which will open the cycle with its show “The Alegrías” on April 3 and 4. This talented Malaguenya dancer has been acclaimed by her ability to merge flamenco with new influences, and will be presented with singer Lola Dolores.
Experiments and tributes to dance
The cycle will also include innovative performances such as Juan Carlos Lérida, who will present his solo “Cher”, in which he explores self-tune in the context of dance. In addition, dancer Laila Tafur will pay tribute to Whitney Houston with her proposal “Maja y Bastarda”.
Reflections on tradition and avant -garde
Laia Santanach will culminate in her trilogy on traditional dances with “Jarana”, while the brothers Víctor and Raúl Pérez Armero will present “Rel i staple”, a work that fuses music and dance in an innovative way. Manuel Liñán, winner of the National Dance Award, will close the cycle with “Muerta de amor”, a show that promises an immersive experience with a dozen artists.
