A day for reflection and action
The Conca d’Odena witnessed a significant event on March 6, as part of the celebrations for International Women’s Day. The Nativity Day Yarza, an event that has gained relevance over the years, gathered an impressive number of participants for the delivery of the Nativity Yarza Awards, recognizing the importance of gender research.
Yarza Nativity Awards: A momentum to feminist research
In this edition, which marks the sixth year of these distinctions, the study of feminisms and gender was supported among the students of Baccalaureate in the region. The high school of the Conca d’Odena presented a total of nine works, each one approaching themes ranging from gender violence to the visibility of women in various fields.
Two students, two innovative approach
Dora Marimon Garrido, with his work entitled “Between reflexes and shadows: trans women, femininity and social representations”, was the winner of the first prize. His research highlights the multiple forms of discrimination that trans women face, illustrating their struggle through a historical context of feminism. This work was rewarded with a prize of € 400, while the institute also received € 350 for its feminist commission.
Visible the aesthetic pressure
The second prize, valued at € 250, was awarded to Ona Morón Jiménez for his work “Alopecia induced by chemotherapy. What do women feel who suffer from it? ” This study addresses the aesthetic pressure that many women experience during critical moments such as cancer treatment, providing a necessary voice to this problem.
A committed and diverse jury
The selection of the winners was made by a diverse jury made up of education professionals and feminist activists. Among them, Mercè López, Carles Palet, Inés Garcia, as well as representatives of entities such as women with a push, contributed to the objectivity of the process.
A collective commitment to equality
During the event, the Councilors for Equality of the City Council of Igualada and Santa Margarida de Montbui presented an extensive program of activities that promote gender equality, with more than eighty initiatives planned for the week. This invitation to participate was a reflection of the community’s commitment to the cause.
Debates about masculinity and feminism
To close the day, psychologist Ariadna Prat led a talk that encouraged the debate on masculinities and their social construction. Reflection on how feminism can help to deconstruct traditional gender roles was one of the most prominent points, inviting students to think of a more egalitarian future.
