A record moment in honor
On Saturday November 23, at 11 am, the emblematic Basilica of the Sagrada Familia will be the scene of an event of great religious significance: the beatification of two martyrs who lost their lives during the religious persecution of 1936. Among them, highlights Gaietà Clausellas, a priest from Sabadell dedicated to the service of the most needy, and Antoni Tort, an argent who offered refuge to those fleeing violence.
Illumination of faith and community
The ceremony will be led by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, current prefect of the Dicastery of the Causes of the Saints. He will be joined by a distinguished presence from the archbishopric of Barcelona, including Cardinal Joan Josep Omella and other bishops from the region. This celebration is not only a religious act, but also a reaffirmation of the community and its faith in the face of adversity.
How to participate in the event
Attendance at the beatification requires a prior invitation, which can be obtained free of charge at several parishes, including Sagrada Família and Sant Fèlix de Sabadell. Invitations can be collected during specific times until November 22, the deadline to secure a place at this very special commemoration.
The life of Gaietà Clausellas
Born on August 29, 1863 in Sabadell, Gaietà Clausellas was a man of faith and dedication. Ordained a priest in 1888, he served in several parishes, standing out for his commitment to the most vulnerable in society. His life was marked by an intense apostolic zeal and a deep love for the poor and sick, qualities that led him to be killed on August 14, 1936, thus becoming a martyr for his faith.
Antoni Tort: an example of generosity
Antoni Tort, originally from Monistrol de Montserrat, was an exceptional silversmith with a life full of service and devotion. He was a family man with great spirituality, known for his dedication to the community and his involvement in catechesis. His house became a refuge for those fleeing religious persecution, until he himself was arrested and martyred on December 3, 1936.
A legacy of faith and hope
With this beatification, the community not only remembers the life and sacrifice of Gaietà Clausellas and Antoni Tort, but also reaffirms their faith and commitment to Christian values in times of difficulty. Their story is a testimony to the strength of spirit in the face of persecution, a message that resonates strongly today.
