A tribute to Tarragona creativity
From March 7, 2025, the Art Gallery La Cathedral will become a space of memory and admiration for the Tarragona artist Xavier Aluja, thus celebrating his 50 years of passionate dedication to painting. This anthological exhibition highlights a total of 24 pieces that cover different periods of his career, demonstrating his characteristic style that fuses elements of impressionism and expressionism.
An intimate view of the landscape
The works presented in this exhibition are not only a testament to the artist’s talent, but also reflect a deep connection with his hometown. The landscapes of Tarragona, which have inspired it, become the main thread of this exhibition, where the light and the Mediterranean color take center stage. Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of these places through the unique look of Xavier Aluja.
An artist with a unique trajectory
Born in Tarragona in 1950, Aluja developed an indisputable passion for drawing and painting from an early age. Despite being considered largely self-taught, he had prominent figures such as Vicente Segura and Jordi Serrà. His work is a reflection of his individuality and constant search for a style that challenges conventions, opting for a free and personal expression that transcends the trends of the moment.
A recognized artistic legacy
Xavier Aluja is not only a recognized artist in the Tarragona cultural heritage, but he has also received multiple awards and recognitions both nationally and internationally. His work is part of public and private collections, thus consolidating his influence on the world of art. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous exhibitions, both individual and collective, in cities such as Barcelona, Valencia, Paris and Toulouse.
Complementary activities in the gallery
In addition to its exhibition, the Art Gallery La Cathedral also offers a space dedicated to its private collection, which includes works by masters of Catalan painting of the 19th and 20th centuries. For those who have not recently visited the gallery, the haute couture costume exhibition will be maintained by the designer Josep Font, which has been a prominent attraction in the last artistic events.
A promising future for art in Tarragona
The Aluja sample will be open until April 7, and it is expected that it will attract a large number of visitors seeking to connect with local art and culture. His contribution to Tarragona art is not only limited to his painting, but also includes his involvement in various art initiatives in the region, thus reinforcing the importance of art in today’s society.
