Controversy on the Old Hospital
The Political Group Vilafranca en Comú has expressed its concern before the last report presented by the governing body, which details the future uses of the old hospital located in the cloister of Sant Francesc. The proposal includes the creation of a new music school, leaving aside the needs of the largest population.
Differences in political vision
Ramon Arnabat, President of Vilafranca en Comú, has stated his disappointment in the way this issue has been managed. Arnabat recalls that, according to budget agreements for 2024 and 2025, a study had been agreed to rehabilitate the old hospital and define its future uses. “We have learned of the press that a report has already been prepared, and we are surprised that the use is determined without prior discussion,” said Arnabat.
A call for citizen participation
The party leader criticized the governing body for not respecting the agreements, considering that this decision represents a lack of responsibility. “An investment of this magnitude should be determined with the active participation of citizens,” he added. Arnabat emphasized that for years, his party proposes that the destination of the old hospital be determined by the voice of the community.
An alternative vision for the old hospital
Councilor Montse Romagosa has reiterated the proposal of the commons, which seeks to transform the old Sant Francesc hospital into a space dedicated to the elderly. ‘In Vilafranca, the lack of suitable spaces for the older population is alarming. The lack of forecast of governments has led to a critical situation, “Romagosa said.
A carefully renewed model of attention
Romagosa argued that the current system of care for the elderly is obsolete and does not offer appropriate intermediate options between living at home and being admitted to a residence. “The location of the old hospital is strategic, as it can facilitate the connection between the elderly and community life,” he concluded.
Proposals for an inclusive future
From Vilafranca en Comú, it is argued that the Municipal Music School requires a more appropriate space, suggesting its location next to the Municipal Auditorium, a place that could provide the facilities needed for its growth and development.
