Introduction
It is well known that vehicles carry a number plate, a combination of numbers and letters that uniquely identify each car. But you may not know all the changes that license plates are subjected to and the process they go through before they are approved.
Changes to registrations
The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has decided to implement changes in license plates to adapt to the high renewal of the mobile fleet. The last vehicles registered in May bear the letters MRX, and plates with MRY and MRZ have already begun to be produced. This indicates that we will soon see license plates ending in MSB on the roads.
Furthermore, current data shows that all possible numerical combinations of each letter occur in just 48 hours. This shows the boom in vehicle sales and the speed with which new cars are being registered.
Restrictions and future
It should be noted that there are some letters that are prohibited on license plates to avoid confusion, such as A, CH, E, I, LL, Ñ, O, Q and U. These restrictions, together with the rate of registration, make it possible that the current license plate system will soon run out. The DGT is already working to find a viable and realistic solution for this problem.
In short, in the coming weeks we will see number plates ending in MSB on Spanish roads, while the DGT is looking for a new solution for the number plate system.
