A Journey Through Spiritual Cinema
The 21st edition of the Spiritual Film Festival, which will be held from November 15 to 30, presents itself as a unique opportunity to explore the world of spiritual experiences through the screen. Organized by the General Directorate of Religious Affairs of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the event will take place in several cities, including Barcelona, Mataró, Sabadell, Lleida and Salt, with a special focus on the work of Ermanno Olmi at the Filmoteca of Catalonia.
The Value of Spiritual Reflection
Ramon Bassas, director general of Religious Affairs, highlights the importance of this exhibition as a space for reflection. According to him, it is not just about consuming cinema, but about inviting introspection about the meaning of spiritual experiences in everyday life, both for believers and for those who do not feel identified with any religion.
A Diversified Cultural Approach
Bassas explains that spirituality is a deeply personal concept, which invites everyone to inquire into what is not visible. Using cinema as a vehicle, the exhibition seeks to make visible narratives that resonate with the deepest human concerns, which are often hidden beneath the surface of our lives.
Cinema as a Reflection of Society
The director also highlights the power of cinema to address contemporary and relevant issues. The films to be screened not only explore religion, but also address current issues such as immigration and climate change, inviting deep reflection on the realities around us.
Themes of Transformation and Resistance
The exhibition focuses on two key themes: metamorphosis and stories of resistance. Through films like ‘The Invader’, the dignity found in everyday struggle and the importance of narratives that help us understand the world and ourselves are presented.
Popular Culture and Spirituality
One of the highlights of the exhibition will be the preview of a series about ‘Els Pastorets’, which invites reflection on the validity of popular culture today. Bassas raises questions about how these traditional accounts can continue to speak to us today, revealing the moral and ethical concerns that resonate in our lives.
A Mirror of Our Anxieties
The series seeks to deepen the responsibility we have as a society to contextualize and understand the meaning of the narratives that surround us, an aspect that is often lost in today’s culture. This connection between the past and the present can offer new paths of spiritual exploration.
A Future of Reflection and Dialogue
With a rich cinematographic offer and a focus on the diversity of voices and experiences, the Spiritual Film Festival seeks not only to entertain, but also to open spaces for reflection and dialogue on issues that affect us all. Thus, this edition is presented as an invitation to deepen our understanding of the spiritual world, at a time when society needs these conversations more than ever.
