Claudia Sheinbaum leads the preliminary count
According to the preliminary count published by the National Electoral Institute (INE), Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s official candidate and leader of the leftist Morena option (National Regeneration Movement), is at the head of the presidential elections. This count shows that Sheinbaum has obtained approximately 60% of the votes, while the opposition candidate, Xóchitl Gálvez, has only obtained around 28% of the ballots. It is important to keep in mind that these percentages are not yet official, since the scrutiny of the polls is in process.
Partial results and confirmed forecasts
The partial results of the preliminary count confirm the forecasts published by several polling companies, such as ‘Enkoll’ or ‘Mendoza Blanco & Asociados’. These results also show that the third candidate, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, has obtained approximately 8.7% of the votes, despite not having much chance according to the polls. These partial data reinforce Sheinbaum’s position as the possible successor of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, current president of Mexico and founder of Morena.
Perspectives and discrepancies on the results
Despite the preliminary results published by the INE, the opposition candidate, Xóchitl Gálvez, defends the possibility of becoming the winner of the elections. She has assured that she has won the elections and has requested patience until the official results confirm her victory. On the other hand, the national president of Morena, Mario Delgado, is confident that the final scrutiny will ratify the preliminary results, which would make Sheinbaum the first female president of Mexico.
