A Space for Innovation and Equality
CIBA, a center dedicated to female empowerment and sustainable economy, was the scene of a crucial day dedicated to the fight against early school leaving. The event featured the prominent participation of the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Esther Niubó, and the mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Mireia González.
Milestones Achieved and Future Objectives
During the day, the progress achieved in recent years was taken into account within a municipal strategy designed to improve educational success and combat absenteeism. Of the seven goals set for 2022, five have already been completed, while two remained to be implemented.
Early Detection Protocol
One of the key aspects for the period until 2026 includes the creation of a protocol to quickly identify students at high risk of dropping out during the last cycle of primary school.
New Local Absenteeism Plan
In addition, it is planned to implement a new Local Plan to address school absenteeism with new strategies and methodologies.
Expanded Educational Opportunities
To date, several educational initiatives have been developed that go beyond the school environment, offering free activities and orientation programs and work placements to help young people reintegrate into the education system.
Statements from the Authorities
In her speech, Mayor Mireia González stressed that school dropout is not just a matter of ability, but depends on the possibilities of access to education. She insisted on the importance of post-compulsory education to guarantee a dignified future for children and adolescents.
Call for Collaboration
González called for collaboration between administrations and institutions, highlighting the need for a shared approach to addressing the phenomenon of school dropout.
A New Educational Vision
Minister Esther Niubó concluded the event by highlighting the need for a personalized approach to meet the needs of each student. In this sense, the Department of Education is working on measures that will be presented in early 2025, with a focus on early detection and diversification of the educational offer.
Presentation on Educational Co-responsibility
The event also included a presentation by Maribel García, professor of Sociology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, who discussed the importance of a comprehensive approach in the fight against school absenteeism, highlighting the role of co-responsibility and collaboration between all educational agents.
