Sections affected and duration of works

Public transport users face more complications due to copper thefts and the adaptation works that will be carried out on the R4 and R8 lines of Rodalies. These works will last from June 24 to September 11 and will affect two specific sections. The first phase of the works will be carried out between Castellbisbal and Molins de Rei (R4) and between Martorell Central and Rubí Can Vallhonrat (R8), from June 24 to August 25. The second phase will take place between Martorell Central and Molins de Rei (R4) and between Martorell Central and Rubí Can Vallhonrat (R8), from August 26 to September 11.

Alternative transport plan

To guarantee the mobility of affected passengers, Renfe has presented an alternative road transport plan. During the works, a bus service synchronized with the timetables of the Rodalies trains will be provided. These buses will not allow access with bicycles or pets, but will be adapted for people with reduced mobility. There will be a fleet of 25 buses, which will make around 200 daily journeys in each direction.

The works in the context of the Mediterranean corridor

The works that will affect the R4 and R8 lines are part of the remodeling that Adif is carrying out for the development of the Mediterranean corridor in Catalonia. This corridor is an expected rail connection with Europe and aims to connect by train from Algeciras to Figueres, and from there to connect with southern Europe to Hungary.

Renfe strike on June 14

In addition to the complications caused by the works, the Railway Union (SF) has called a 24-hour strike for June 14 in all Renfe workshops. The union denounces the lack of staff, spare parts and tools, as well as the deplorable state of the workshops and the continuous outsourcing of workloads. This situation negatively affects workers and generates an atmosphere of frustration and demotivation. SF is calling on rail users to support the strike and has called for protest rallies at several stations.
