A problematic rent in Peramola
For two years now, a family that has inhabited a social apartment in the rectory of Peramola has expressed its frustration in the face of the actions of the mayor, Joan Puig Bellido. Its management has generated a climate of tension, especially with the threat of bringing them to court for a cumulative debt of 10,000 euros, corresponding to the light and gas bills.
A contract with gaps
The lease stipulates that the tenants are responsible for the energy supply costs and the garbage rate. However, the building’s infrastructure, with a gas boiler and a shared electrical system, makes it difficult to determine the consumption exactly attributable to the family. This has led to a conflict with invoices, which have sometimes reached unsustainable figures.
Community discontent
Neighbors on the first floor of the blog have alleged that there are other residents who use common spaces without contributing to maintenance, including a garage and a room for youth activities. This situation has generated a perception of injustice that has intensified with the exorbitant bills they have received.
Difficult living conditions
In addition to the economic burdens, the family has been exposed to a hostile atmosphere during the first years of stay, with discomfort caused by the noise and bad smells of the youth space on the ground floor. This situation has diminished its quality of life and has fueled its feeling of disappointment.
Promises not fulfilled
The family also expressed their disappointment in the City Council, which had guaranteed decent housing and employment opportunities. This promise, in the context of a public campaign to attract new residents and combat depopulation, has been in the air, generating distrust and frustration between those affected.
A challenge for the community
The situation of the family in the rectory is a reflection of the broader problem of the rural depopulation that affects the Pyrenees. The struggle to improve living conditions and lack of employment opportunities have led to a constant population flow to cities, leaving behind small nuclei like Peramola with an endangered educational offer.
The picture of Peramola in play
The current conflict that surrounds the family does not help to build a positive image of Peramola. This can make it difficult for the municipality to be attractive to future residents, a situation that contradicts local efforts to revitalize the community and ensure the future of the school with 15 students.
With repopulation as a goal, the locality needs to resolve these internal conflicts and work to create a welcoming environment that can reverse the tendency of exodus to cities.
