An unprecedented collapse
The CSIF union has denounced the serious situation that Correos is going through in the province of Toledo, where the postal service is on the verge of collapse with more than 30,000 notifications pending delivery.
Lack of staff: the root of the problem
The main cause of this chaos is staff shortages, which have reached alarming levels. The workforce has been reduced by 35% throughout the province, and in some locations the situation is even more critical, reaching more than 50% or even not having any workers.
The inaction of the Post Office
Despite the obvious need to hire more staff, the Post Office has refused to take action. The Employment Exchanges, which have more than 60,000 candidates throughout the country, remain inactive, leaving thousands of people without work and citizens without an adequate postal service.
Disastrous consequences
The lack of personnel has led to saturation of delivery units, causing delays in the delivery of notifications. In addition, postmen are under constant pressure, causing discomfort in the units and in their homes.
The situation is so serious that many localities are left without delivery for several days, violating the right to universal postal service.
An uncertain future
The forecasts for the coming months are even more worrying. If Correos does not take urgent measures, the collapse of the postal service in Toledo will worsen, leaving citizens without an essential service.
