An unexpected appointment
The recent appointment of Daniel Palau as bishop of Lleida, announced by Pope Leo XIV, has surprised both him and the community. In an interview with Radio Estel’s ‘Without Distance’ program, Palau shared that his initial reaction was surprised, taking some time to reflect on this new stage in his life.
Commitment to the diocese
Coming from the diocese of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Palau has expressed great enthusiasm and commitment to his new ministry. With an approach to collaboration and joint work, he has stated his desire to meet the needs of the community, including those who feel far from the Church.
Dialogue and welcome spaces
The new bishop emphasized the importance of creating encounter spaces for all believers, with the aim of fostering an open and inclusive dialogue, which allows sharing joys and concerns without exclusions.
A new stage in his career
At the age of 52, Palau is preparing to resign as dean of the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia to assume this new responsibility. Its episcopal arrangement will take place on July 19 in the New Cathedral of Lleida, marking a significant moment in his professional and personal life.
Outgoing bishop ratings
Salvador Giménez Valls, the previous bishop of Lleida, praised the selection of his successor, highlighting his youth, his extensive curriculum and his solid academic training. Giménez Valls has expressed his desire to convey to the new bishop the challenges that the diocese faces, including the decrease in vocations in the priesthood and the consecrated life.
Conflicts that mark the past
In addition, the outgoing bishop has shared his sadness over the tensions between the dioceses of Lleida and Barbastre, related to the art of the Strip, a theme that has left a mark on his career, wishing that this episode was not repeated in the future.
