MÉS for Palma reiterates the defense of the rights of Catalan speakers
One day after the historic Language Day in Palma, where a large crowd expressed their rejection of the offensive against Catalan, MÉS for Palma is again asking that the rights of Catalan speakers be respected. The three councilors from the training in Cort have appeared before the media to defend the right of all the inhabitants of Palma to live fully in Catalan, including their town hall.
Criticism of the attitude of the Popular Party of the Balearic Islands and VOX
The MÉS councilor for Palma, Miquel Àngel Contreras, has highlighted the need for the Popular Party of the Balearic Islands to abandon the extreme right and return to the consensus that has prevailed for more than 40 years on this linguistic issue. He has criticized the position of VOX and the support it receives from the Popular Party, pointing out that this attitude has caused a massive demonstration in the Plaza Mayor, showing that civil society still remembers the Bauzá Government and is ready to stand up to the abuse and the systematic attack against the Catalan language.
Demands and motion for the Municipal Plenum
MÉS for Palma has announced the presentation of a motion for the next Municipal Plenum. This motion will include the demand that the municipal government return to consensus in linguistic matters and urge the Government of the Balearic Islands, chaired by Marga Prohens, to rectify and guarantee the right to live fully in Catalan in the Balearic Islands. It will also claim the recognition of the unity of the Catalan language and will urge the Royal House to rectify and withdraw the treatment of royal to the self-styled ‘Academia de la Llengua Balear’.
