Decisive moments for the future of the club
Crucial dates are approaching that will determine the configuration of the FC Barcelona squad for the 2024/25 season. In this context, the club’s financial efforts are focused on closing the signing of Nico Williams as soon as possible. However, the list of names that emerge as potential signings continues to grow, either thanks to the positive reports handled by the sports management or to the contacts of agents who present their clients.
Xavi Simons: a name in the conversation
One of the most mentioned footballers in recent weeks is midfielder Xavi Simons. Simons is currently part of Paris Saint-Germain, but it seems that technical director Luis Enrique is not counting on him for the next campaign. Given this, the player has explored the possibility of returning to Barça, where he maintains good relations with several members of the team. However, Joan Laporta, president of the club, has closed this option forcefully.
A difficult exit to forgive
Laporta remembers how Xavi Simons left FC Barcelona when he was just a teenager. After years wearing the Blaugrana shirt, Simons opted to join PSG, who offered him a more lucrative contract. In this sense, the line that the president has drawn is clear: whoever leaves for economic reasons does not return. Laporta has not forgotten the departure of Simons, who was considered one of the greatest talents at La Masia, and as in other cases of young promises who left too soon, he has decided to close the door. This already happened with Ilaix Moriba and more recently with Marc Guiu, which reflects his firmness in this matter.
Manchester United interest
With this panorama, Manchester United has entered the fight for Xavi Simons, and has done so with great intentions. When everything indicated that Bayern Munich was in pole position to sign him, presenting an offer of 70 million euros, the Red Devils have increased their offer. Erik Ten Hag, Simons’ compatriot, is convinced that his arrival would represent a vital leap in quality for the squad. For this reason, the English would be willing to offer close to 100 million euros, a figure that Paris Saint-Germain could consider and that, so far, neither Bayern nor any other club have been able to match.
