A cunning robbery in a car park
Recently, the Catalan authorities have managed to disarticulate a band of thieves in Lleida, composed of two women and two men between the ages of 25 and 32. This operation was unleashed after an incident that took place in the car park of a supermarket in the Gold Cup area.
The ‘sowing’ strategy: a dangerous deception
The events took place on a Wednesday at noon, when a young woman struck a vehicle’s window to attract a woman’s attention. He pointed to him some coins that were allegedly on the ground. When the victim went out to investigate, the thieves took the opportunity to steal his handbag, which he had left inside the car. This method, known as ‘sowing’, is common among professional thieves.
Identification and persecution of suspects
Following the incident, the victim informed the Mossos d’Esquadra, providing a detailed description of the young girl and mentioning that her cellphone was inside her bag, which could be located. In the Gold Cup area, where the events took place, are supermarkets such as Mercadona and Esclat, strategic points for these criminals.
Detention in the motorway: a well -coordinated operation
With this information, the agents managed to locate the thieves in a vehicle traveling on the A-2 motorway towards Barcelona. A covert patrol from the Mollerussa police station identified the car, but criminals sought to escape, throwing objects out the window during their escape.
Capture and subsequent research
After a brief persecution, the Mossos managed to stop the vehicle near Cervera. When identified, it was discovered that three of the detainees had a criminal record for similar crimes. In addition, it was verified that they were traveling in a rental car from the metropolitan area.
Recovered material and incriminating evidence
During the search of the vehicle, agents found a re-kite cellphone that did not belong to the victim, as well as several articles that the thieves used to camouflage, such as jackets of different colors, caps and sunglasses. Interestingly, one of the detainees bore 395 euros hidden in the underwear, as well as a hook and a magnet used to deactivate alarm systems.
Recovery of telephone and other valuables
Thanks to geolocation, agents were able to recover the victim’s roof, as well as other value items such as money, glasses and a portfolio, with a total value of 650 euros.
Legal procedures and continuity of research
The investigation is still open to determine the origin of the second telephone and the jewelry recovered. The detainees have been made available to Cervera Court of Instruction, where they will have to face the consequences of their actions.
